    Makenzie Phipps

The entertainment just keeps getting better every year—and this year is no exception.

We’re excited to welcome Makenzie Phipps as one of the featured performers at the 39th Boone County WVU Alumni and Friends Pig Roast and Music Frolic. Hailing from Bluefield, Virginia, Makenzie recently gained national attention as a contestant on The Voice, where she was selected by Snoop Dogg to join his team.

With more than 80,000 social media followers and over 1.8 million streams on Spotify, Makenzie is quickly making her mark in country music. She’s performed at iconic venues including the Grand Ole Opry House and Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, showcasing her powerful voice and authentic style.

Her growing list of accolades includes the Josie Award for Best Female Country Song of the Year for her hit “Maybe,” as well as the Future Star of Tomorrow Award from the North American Country Music Association International.

BEARS AND BLANKETS

The WVU Alumni Association has started a new tradition  - collecting donations of Bears and Blankets for children undergoing treatment at WVU Medicine's Children's Hospital. These donations will be given to children upon admission or as a reward for completing treatment, helping to brighten their hospital experience. If you would like to participate, please bring a new (with tag still attached) stuffed bear and/or blanket to our event on July 12th. (Please note: Beanie Babies are NOT be accepted.)
